April Cat Appreciation Day

Published April 21, 2015 by Storm

The last couple of weeks have had my brain feeling like sludge, and I completely lost track of the date. I’ve just realised Cat Appreciation Day should have been on Sunday. Just for this month, I hope, Tuesday will have to be the new Sunday.

So here’s a new cat, not one of our furry family but a regular visitor to the garden, allow me to introduce the feline we know as Mr Moustache.

March 2015 Cat Appreciation Day

The eldest of our cats is the one most likely to play with the kitten but sometimes he wears her out. Miss Red has a variety of hiding places she retreats to when the kitten gets a little too much.

In the uppermost of a pile of boxes,

in the bottom of the cat tower,

in the box our old street tom used to love,

and, if the kitten is worn out as well, in the accidental blanket fort.

Appreciating cats appreciating crochet

“Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair”, as Eleanor Farjeon’s famous poem cheerfully informs us. Well, at the moment our feline companions mostly sleep on my crochet, even going so far as to climb into my project bag and nest amongst the folded blanket and balls of yarn; every time I put my project down it gains a cat.

I don’t really mind them sleeping on it, there wouldn’t be much point crocheting a blanket the cats weren’t allowed to sleep on and it does tell me it’s going to be nice and warm.

Pouncing and sleeping into 2015

He still looks small when he sits in a shopping bag…

… but the kitten is no longer the smallest cat.  Despite constant expenditure of energy, chasing the purple mice he got for Christmas (he now plays fetch which is adorable), he has outgrown our siamese boy and it won’t be long before he overtakes the seal-point lady either.

The adult cats are regularly exhausted by all the kitten’s play…

… very occasionally he exhausts himself as well.
